Week 4 · The MindHow you think, learn, and handle being wrong.

Lesson 17 of 32

Growth Requires Hearing Hard Truths

Ego makes criticism feel like an attack, but it's actually the fastest path to growth.

The Lesson

Our natural reaction to feedback is to get defensive, which immediately shuts down any chance of learning. The key is to train yourself to fight that urge. Assume the person giving the feedback has positive intent and focus on mining for actionable insights instead of having an emotional reaction.

High performers don't just tolerate feedback; they hunger for it. They know that criticism accelerates their development far faster than praise ever will. This doesn't mean you have to accept every piece of feedback uncritically. It means developing the wisdom to separate valuable insights from mere opinion. Your growth is limited only by your ability to hear and use uncomfortable truths.

The Question

What feedback have you dismissed as "they just don't understand" or "they're being unfair" when the real issue might be that they hit on something true that you weren't ready to hear?
