Week 5 · The PathPurpose, direction, and navigating uncertainty.

Lesson 21 of 32

Purpose Outlasts Passion

Passion is the spark that gets you started. Purpose is the compass that keeps you going when when motivation inevitably fades.

The Lesson

Passion is an energy that comes and goes, but your purpose is the deeper "why" that gives you resilience. It's what keeps you from abandoning ship when the work gets difficult or boring—which is precisely when most people quit. This is the difference between an excitement that lasts for weeks and a commitment that lasts for years.

Don't wait for passion to strike before you act. Often, taking action is what sparks passion in the first place. Focus on your purpose, take the next small step even when you don't feel like it, and let your passion catch up to you. Sustainable success comes when your purpose provides the direction and your passion provides the energy.

The Question

What do you say is your "deeper purpose" versus what actually gets you out of bed on the days when you don't feel like doing the work - and what does that gap tell you about your real motivation?
